The Parting
As I recited this poem to my wife Liz I could see the puzzled troubled look on the face as she was trying to come to terms with what it was all about. She was somewhat relieved when I got to the end!
I have parted from my partner after ten long years
and I am a little sad, it brought me close to tears.
We were through so much together, rain hail and snow
I never thought I would see the day that I would let her go.
We got on so well together, we made the perfect team
at times we were so happy it was like living in a dream.
She always put me first, I was in the driver’s seat
as she fulfilled my daily needs and kept me off my feet.
At times I pushed her to the limit, I know she felt the strain
I heard her moan and groan and she never did complain,
and she never let me down until we were near an end
although every day that we went out I drove her around the bend.
But she wasn’t the beauty she was once upon a time
she was showing her age for she was past her prime.
Her body it was sagging there were high miles on her clock
I must admit, I’m sad to say, she was looking like a crock.
I know by now you’ve noticed she was made of stern stuff
to put up with me for so long and I treating her so rough.
I never will forget her, I don’t think I ever can,
My partner for the past ten years,
My Peugeot Partner van!
